01.11.11 ---- Really a Good day ???

01.11.11 ---- Really a Good day ???

In media, they saying 01.11.11 is rare date and will not comeback like that…. Is it really a good day ? For me, it is memorable day. Undergone a surgery on 01.11.11.  Thought to write about it, just making a digital note of my experience.

Why & What Happened ?

Why I undergone a surgery? Ha, Really I don’t know. That’s is the fate. My Banglore friends may knew about my Ear infection which is happened when I left Bangalore. It is started approximately  July sometime, Ear discomfort & pain. Consulted with Doctor’s at that time. They simply said it is nothing, Nothing.
I was always putting OTEK AC+, SOLIWAX like that intoear. Just dumping Right Ear. Slowly, pain and all went out. Mean time, I relocated to Chennai & joined with Royal Bank of Scotland. After joining RBS also, no problem 1 month went also. One fine Sunday, I was alone in my room and watching TV. Got bored, and I seen Ear buds lying on table, simply taken and tried to clean my ears. Oooch, it is started bleeding continuously.  I got afraid, and ran to nearest hospital and then searching for nearest ENT care. It is Sunday no one was there. Searched ineternet, and called 1 ENT specialist, he told it will be OK. Come and meet me at 6 PM. I went to met with him. He simply said, needs one surgery go and take all blood test like……
I was doubted him, and next day visited Chennai’s best ENT hospital Madras ENT Research Foundation.
Dr. Raghunandhan, given good care and talked with me very nice. He told me, looks like some tissue grown up, anyway take tablets for 1 week and comeback after 5 days, let’s check fully.  Nothing changed in 1 week. But, Right ear started draining, white tissues. Really horrible…. Went back to hospital, and they told me to take CT SCAN of Temporal Bone. (The temporal bones are situated at the sides and base of the skull, and lateral to the temporal lobes of the cerebrum.)
With Hearing test, First time I am taking medical diagnosis test’s.  Hearing test, results complete hearing loss in Right Ear. CT scan shows soft tissue lesion within right external auditory canal with bony erosion (? Polyp). Dr, simply said needs 1 surgery to remove that unwanted tissue or else it will affect brain. ASAP it needs to carry out. I was scared. In medical terms they told it is RIGHT OTITIS MEDIA with MASTOIDITIS.
What is Mastoiditis ?

Mastoiditis is an infection of the mastoid bone of the skull. The mastoid is located just behind the outside ear.
Causes, incidence, and risk factors

Mastoiditis is usually caused by a middle ear infection (acute otitis media). The infection may spread from the ear to the mastoid bone of the skull. The mastoid bone fills with infected materials and its honeycomb-like structure may deteriorate.
Mastoiditis usually affects children. Before antibiotics, mastoiditis was one of the leading causes of death in children. Now it is a relatively uncommon and much less dangerous condition.
Symptoms
·         Drainage from the ear
·         Ear pain or discomfort
·         Fever, may be high or suddenly increase
·         Headache
·         Hearing loss
·         Redness of the ear or behind the ear
·         Swelling behind ear, may cause ear to stick out

Signs and tests
An examination of the head may reveal signs of mastoiditis. The following tests may show an abnormality of the mastoid bone:
·         CTscan of the ear
·         Head CT scan
·         Skull x-ray
A culture of drainage from the ear may show bacteria.
Treatment
Mastoiditis may be difficult to treat because medications may not reach deep enough into the mastoid bone. It may require repeated or long-term treatment. The infection is treated with antibiotics by injection, then antibiotics by mouth.
Surgery to remove part of the bone and drain the mastoid (mastoidectomy) may be needed if antibiotic therapy is not successful. Surgery to drain the middle ear through the eardrum (myringotomy) may be needed to treat the middle ear infection.

Expectations (prognosis)
Mastoiditis is curable with treatment. However, it may be hard to treat and may come back.
Complications
·         Destruction of the mastoid bone
·         Dizziness or vertigo
·         Epidural abscess
·         Facial paralysis
·         Meningitis
·         Partial or complete hearing loss
·         Spread of infection to the brain or throughout the body

Calling your health care provider
Call your health care provider if you have symptoms of mastoiditis.
Call for an appointment with your health care provider if:
·         You have an ear infection that does not respond to treatment or is followed by new symptoms
·         Your symptoms do not respond to treatment
Prevention
Promptly and completely treating ear infections reduces the risk of mastoiditis.

What Happened on 01.11.11 ?
